Mark-making in wax through layers of color and texture examine a visual vocabulary of the soul in my encaustic paintings. Usually inspired by quotes or poems from literature, people and places I have seen, or ideas I want to probe, encaustic wax medium allows me to explore not only color and texture, but also ideas and feelings, unearthing various levels of meaning. Marks in wax become but a path, a portal or a window opening onto something more as they dig through layers to probe internal understandings.
I love creating, teaching, hiking, and being a grandma. I taught art in Alpine District for 30 years, and currently work for BYU and UVU in art education.
